During the COVID-19 pandemic, what we can do is limited and there are many people who are suffering. The lives of university students, such as me, have changed completely. Most classes have changed to online. Only my laboratory class was supposed to be conducted face-to-face, but I submitted an application and took the laboratory class at home via live delivery.

Sometimes, I couldn’t understand what my professor was saying, but my associate professor cared about me then, so she gave me a supplementary video and gave me some information via e-mail. Furthermore, my friend took a picture of what was happening in laboratory class and some of the lab results and e-mailed me the pictures.

I had the experience of feeling the warmth of people. I was worried whether I could learn without physically going to class, or not, but the people around me helped me.

Also, I worked at my part-time job in my hometown. From this experience, I learned very important things about working in the future. At the office of my part-time job, I worked with seniors who were completely different from me in age and lifestyle. It is said that society is a group of a variety of different people, and, through my part-time job, I was given the opportunity to work in such an environment while being a university student. My seniors taught me how to effectively communicate with customers. I had no choice but to stay in my hometown because of COVID-19, but I also had the experience of being able to working while still studying because of this situation.

Lots of things have been lost due to COVID-19. However, I have learned a lot in this situation. I’ll try various things, make an effort, and work on building human relationships like getting the cooperation of others. Then, my remaining university life will become more enriched.

　コロナ禍において、出来ることを制限され、苦しい思いをしている人々がたくさんいます。わたしたち大学生の生活も一変しました。ほとんどの授業がオンラインとなっています。私が履修する実験の授業も対面での実施とされていましたが、私は対面授業配慮申請を提出して実家よりリアルタイムの映像を通して受講しました。

　ときどき、教授の仰っていることが理解できないこともあったのですが、その際は助教授の先生が私を気遣って、補足の動画を撮って送ってくださり、またメールでの解説もしてくださいました。さらに、対面で参加している友人が実験の様子や結果を写真に記録し、送ってくれたこともありました。

　私は人の温かみを感じる経験をしたのです。実際にその場に行かずとも学びを得られるのか不安に思っていましたが、私の周りの人たちが助けてくれました。

　また、私は地元の新潟でアルバイトをしていました。この経験が、これから就職するにあたって非常に大切なことを学ぶ場になったと感じています。そのアルバイト先で、私は自分と年齢もライフスタイルも全く違う先輩方とお仕事をしました。よく「社会は色んな人たちの集まりだ」と言われますが、このアルバイトの経験を通して、私は学生の内からそうした環境で働くことが出来たのです。先輩方からお客様と効果的なコミュニケーションをとるにはどうしたら良いかということも教えていただきました。コロナ禍のため仕方なく地元にいたのですが、こうした状況になったからこそ様々な人と働き、接客について学ぶことができました。

　コロナによって多くのことが失われてしまいました。しかしその一方で、学び得たことも沢山あると振り返ります。私はこれからもできる限り沢山のことに挑戦し、努力を怠らず、そして周りの協力を得られる人間関係を築いていこうと考えています。そうすることで、残りの大学生活を充実したものにしてみせます。
